he said he maybe wanted to get out of radio, and open a record store. sadly, these days that’s a dying business too.

I never knew what the singer looked liked, but I knew the song quite long, great seeing a face now !
Amaazing great track. A real classic, though heard not much on radio here.

This guy is such a free soul. He’s driving down the road in his car not knowing where he’ll end up next, but that’s all right. Unfortunate he died only at 39 years old.

A song and sound I have found myself singing through my life’s ups and downs. I first heard it on the American top 40, on a Sunday in New Zealand (Paradise)

Harry died in a traffic accident.
He died of a heart attack which led to the traffic accident.
He was one of my favorite singers and my brother was the one who played him all the time.
Even today it is still relevant to music and life and the lost loves.
We never seem to have time to fix those lost loves.
R.I.P. Harry we still miss you all these years later.

venchianJuly 31st, 2009 at 9:02 pm

i looked for this video cause i actually heard it on the radio and i thought it was quite lame-ly catchy. but i had no idea the guy from the proclaimers played bass (2:10)
joe trohman on guitar and the lead BEE-GEE on keys. pause it exactly on 2:38 for a great looking face by him. its hilarious

RayNDeereJuly 31st, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I think he would change the station call letters in the last chorus once in awhile in concert to a local station.

I love Harry Chapin. I am 21 and i love all his songs. Why would anyone say “this is terrible” i respect their opinion but I love him to death

ProfessorPLRJuly 31st, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I’ve loved Harry since the 70’s. I am becoming a YouTube Junkie because of all the great music that’s available here. There are shining moments on all of his recordings. Sure there are a lot of missteps, but just as many gems.

Plus don’t forget he founded World Hunger Year in the 70’s as well. Without Harry, I don’t know if Bob Geldof would have ever organized Band Aid, although that might be unfair to Sir Bob.

vivalasteve12July 31st, 2009 at 9:02 pm

this is just terrible
