Pie Dough is an American thing? where does he get his information, what about Canada and Britain, lots of pies there when I last checked, they were making pies in Britain 200 years before American was even founded. BTW, the Guy is very snappy, he must be on something.

Tried making pie crusts this way 3 times and hasn’t failed. This recipe and method is a keeper!
Thank you Chicago Tribune!

we have apple trees in my backyard and every year we we pick them and make apple pie! but i am sick of buying the crappy pre-made pie crusts! this should help!
I think the ingredients should be 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup shortening, 2 cups would be too much.

Take one level cup of all-purpose flour, remove two tablespoons, and then add two tablespoons of corn starch back in. (1 cup AP flour - 2 Tablespoons AP flour + 2 Tablespoons corn starch = 1 cup cake flour) Be sure to sift the flour to distribute the corn starch well before using it in your dough or batter.

You can cut corners by making a substitute “cake flour” out of regular, all-purpose flour and corn starch.
Here’s the formula:
latinhandsMay 30th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Ingredients:
2c -All-Purpose flour
1/4c -Cake flour
1/2 -tsp salt
1c -Cold Butter (cubed)
1c -Shortening or homemade lard(cubed)
6tbs -very Cold water
1 1/2 -tsp Apple Cider Vinegar (helps to bring the fats together and form the dough)
Separate 2 flattened (wrapped) and chill at least for 30 min. BEFORE you roll out dough for your pies or pastries Happy baking!

you can also add some sugar for a sweeter dough
Blether333May 30th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
I believe it was 2 cups of all-purpose flour and a quarter cup of cake flour (’weak’ flour).

Please could you write the list of ingredients?, Thank you. I have a little of confusion with the second flour.
